By the late 1990s, German hard rock veterans Scorpions were no strangers to reinvention. Having just collaborated with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra for the ambitious Moment of Glory project, the band, led by guitarist Rudolf Schenker and vocalist Klaus Meine, was ready for a different kind of acoustic challenge. The concept for Acoustica —a live "unplugged" album—had been a long-standing request from fans, and the band decided to bring it to life in a setting as unique as the project itself: the historic Convento do Beato, a converted 16th-century monastery in Lisbon, Portugal.
