Los Tigres Del Norte was formed in 1969 in Harlingen, Texas, by brothers Jorge, Hernán, and Emilio Elizalde, along with their cousin, Mario Quintero. The group's name, which translates to "The Tigers of the North," was inspired by a Mexican folk song. Initially, they performed traditional Mexican music, but soon began to experiment with other genres, such as norteño, conjunto, and mariachi.

Based on the famous novel by Arturo Pérez-Reverte, the title song created a legendary female protagonist in the corrido world.
