The Survival tree keeps you alive and well-stocked. It covers health regeneration, inventory expansion, item durability, lockpicking, and shop discounts. The skill trees are structured in vertical rows. You cannot simply dump all your points into the most powerful skill at the bottom. Instead, you must unlock each tier sequentially. To reach a new row, you need to invest a in the row immediately above it. For example, to reach Tier 3, you must spend 3 points in Tier 2. It doesn't matter if you max out one skill or spread them across multiple; the total points in the row is what counts.
